Typical Animals Available for Adoption:

Disclaimer: The following are descriptions of typical animals available for adoption at the Denver Municipal Animal Shelter (666 South Jason Street, Denver, CO).

Procedure: Adoptions are done on a "first come, first serve" basis at the Denver Municipal Animal Shelter. You need a Driver's license or I.D. with your current address.

Spay/neuter: If you adopt a dog or cat that has not been spayed or neutered, it must be spayed or neutered before you can take the pet home. Spay/neuter is done at Harrison Memorial Animal Hospital on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. This means that you won't be able to take your new pet home until after the spay/neuter, so if you adopt on a Saturday, for example, you won't bring your pet home until Monday. You will pick up your pet at Harrison (a map will be provided at the time of adoption). Dogs and cats that have already been spayed/neutered are available immediately upon payment of fee. Spay/neuter is not required for animals other than dogs and cats.

See D.M.A.S. / Animal Control web page FAQ for further information on adopting animals from the shelter.

Adoption Fees: You can pay with a check, cash, or Visa or MasterCard. See DMAS (FAQ: Adoptions) page for complete schedule of fees for adopting dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens.
